AgriKids has just launched two gaming apps for children focused on farm safety which are available to download free of charge on iOS and Android.
The AgriKids original ‘Farm Safe Fun’ app which was launched in 2016, suitable for 5+ year-olds, received a makeover with the return of the original and hugely popular ‘Dodge the Dangers’, ‘Stop the Bales’ and ‘Blackberry Picking’ games.
New to AgriKids is the fast-paced endless runner style games, AgriEscape, which tests players’ ability to avoid oncoming dangers on the farm and to collect the safety tools such as high vis and helmets, to help them along the way.
Watch out for oncoming machinery, stay out of the cow’s ‘kick zones’ while also avoiding falling bales, is the message.
Meanwhile, Agrikids’ recent Engage, Educate and Empower project with Irish Rural Link has created a fleet of resources.
“We have put together a manual of the key insights and learnings acquired by AgriKids in delivering farm safety workshops in schools and communities over the years.
“By sharing this insight and inspiring a new approach to how we deliver farm safety education in our schools, we can all play a special role in creating a safer future on our farms,” said AgriKids founder, Alma Jordan.
The event “might be part of a bigger safety and wellbeing event at the school, or it could be something smaller, with a classroom or a group of classes coming together”, she said.
“Whatever the format, the guide will help the reader co-deliver an event that will engage the audience, educate them on aspects of farming and farm safety and most importantly, empower them to bring this message home. This may be through the supplying worksheets or creating a homework exercise as part of the event.
“Suitable for teachers, farmers, parents local agri representatives, members of An Garda Siochana or other similar public outreach bodies, the manual has been collated through help and insight of an advisory panel of farmers, farm accident survivors, An Garda Siochana, community development officers and teachers,” she added.
Meanwhile, Agrikids made an animated video with Irish Rural Link for its song ‘Working on the Farm,’ attracting 10k views per week. The song was created for the Farmers4Safety EIP project, managed by Niamh Nolan, and AgriKids added the video as part of the project.
