1,404 new tractors licensed in first half of 2025 - CSO

New figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show that 188 new tractors were licensed in June 2025.

This is an increase of 44% in the number of new tractors licensed compared with June 2024, when 131 were licensed for the first time.

Between January and June this year, 1,404 new tractors were licensed for the first time. This is a 4% increase on the first half of 2024 when 1,349 were licensed.

208 used - imported - tractors were licensed in June this year, compared wih 217 last year.

From January to June this year, 1,363 used tractors were licensed, a 1% increase on 1,355 last year.

The CSO figures for vehicles licensed for the first time in June 2025 show that the total number of new private cars licensed rose by 50% in comparison with June 2024 (5,259 versus 3,499).

The number of used (imported) cars licensed increased by 4% (5,448 versus 5,228) over the same period.

The number of new electric vehicles licensed in June 2025 rose by 38% when compared with June 2024 (1,225 versus 886).

This means the share of electric vehicles among new private cars from January to June 2025 was 17% compared with 14% in the same period of 2024.

The combined share of petrol and diesel cars among new private cars licensed from January to June 2025 has fallen in comparison with 2024 (44% versus 56%).

Damien Lenihan, statistician in the transport section of the CSO, said that there were 1,285 used diesel private cars licensed in June 2025, compared with 1,406 in the same period of 2024, a fall of 9%.

Used (imported) private petrol cars licensed decreased by 1% in June 2025 compared with June 2024 (2,358 versus 2,375).
