Arrest made in Dublin as part of investigation into quad thefts in Monaghan

A man was arrested in Co. Dublin yesterday (Thursday, February 13) as part of an ongoing investigation into organised criminal activity and quad thefts in Co. Monaghan.

Detectives from Monaghan, Cavan and Dublin carried out a search of an industrial premises in Co. Dublin and recovered a quad bike.

A man aged in his 20s was arrested and is currently being detained at a station in the Garda North Western Region under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007. Investigations for the incident remain ongoing.

Meanwhile, Gardaí are running a campaign, which is part of Operation Thor, a national multi-strand anti-crime initiative which actively targets organised crime gangs and repeat offenders. It involves a wide-range of enforcement, crime prevention and public awareness measures.

Operation Thor has resulted in a substantial reduction in domestic burglaries across Ireland since it first launched in November 2015.

Over the winter months, targeted activity across garda divisions include checkpoints, increased patrolling in burglary hot-spots, and the provision of impactful and useful crime prevention advice.

Separately, a quad was reported stolen last week from a sheep shed in Tydavnet, Co. Monaghan between 4.30am and 5am.

The quad is a blue 2024 Yamaha Grizzly 100 with a loud exhaust (pictured above) worth around £10,000 (€12,031).

The farmer was awake early and heard the quad leaving the yard. He immediately drove after the vehicle by listening to the exhaust, but was unable to track it down.

A neighbour was also subject to theft at around the same time, having tools stolen from their yard. Gardaí are investigating both incidents and many in the area are also keeping an eye out.

The farmer has been in touch with quad dealers in the area to prevent a resale of the stolen vehicle. He is also offering a cash reward for anyone with further information.
