The Glenamaddy District Ploughing and Agricultural Show is due to take place this Sunday (September 29) at Glenamaddy Equestrian Centre, marking its tenth anniversary.
Following on from last year's success which drew crowds of over 6,500 attendees, this year's event organisers have promised visitors an even bigger spectacle, with a diverse array of activities and exhibitions on show to celebrate the agricultural heritage of the area.
This year's Glenamaddy Show will observe a historic, world record attempt to plough an acre in the fastest time and will host the first All-Ireland Tractor Pulling Finals.
The 40,000ft2 equestrian arena will also serve as a backdrop for a comprehensive livestock showcase, which will include commercial and pedigree cattle, pedigree dairy cattle and sheep, highlighting the best classes for breeding.
As with previous years, the ploughing competition will once again prove to be a main attraction for attendees.
In addition to this, the day will offer cooking demonstrations from celebrity chef Edward Hayden alongside local chef Tony Scapaticci who will share recipes, as well as an extensive display of vintage tractors, machinery, cars for the vintage competition.
The Glenamaddy Show will also present sheep dog trials and a poultry competition.
Attendees can also expect to enjoy live music performances featuring talented local traditional musicians, in addition to the annual jiving and waltzing competitions.
Children will also be catered for on the day with amusements, art competitions and a visit from a magician.
Speaking ahead of this year’s 10th anniversary of the show, Glenamaddy District Ploughing and Agricultural Show chair, Pat Connolly said:
“Excitement ahead of this year’s show is growing ahead of the important anniversary but also for the world record attempt and the All-Ireland tractor pulling competition that are new and exciting additions to this year’s show.
“As a committee, we are always looking at how we can improve the show in terms of what we have already and what we can add to it.
“The talk locally and further afield is extremely positive about this year’s show and rightly so as it has grown from half a dozen people in a room talking about running a show 10 years ago to now having anywhere from 8,000-10,000 visitors annually.
“A lot of people have come and gone but the work of those people over the last decade has brought us to where we are now, celebrating 10 years of the show and to those we thank for their hard work and dedication.”
Connolly thanked all of the sponsors of the show “who help make it the success it is”.
Tickets for adults are charged at €15 while children under 12 go free.
