Boyhan: Reopening of Holyhead 'vital' for Irish agriculture

Independent Senator, Victor Boyhan has welcomed the news that the port in Holyhead, Wales has reopened fully.

Senator Boyhan, who is a member of the Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture and Food believes that the route is "vital" for Irish agriculture.

He said: "The Dublin - Holyhead Port route is vital for Irish agriculture and the movement of goods for both imports and exports, so todays confirmation is very welcome.

"This ferry route facilitates the transport of a wide range of perishable food items, consumer and retail products, and livestock. The port is crucial for maintaining the flow of goods between Ireland and the UK, as well as with mainland Europe," he added.

The senator also believes that keeping goods and service moving between Dublin and Holyhead, and across the EU is of critical importance for the agri-food sector.

Minister of State Canney emphasised the importance of close collaboration between local authorities, port operators, ferry companies, and logistics industry representatives.
