Bulls reach €10,700 at Carrick pedigree bull and heifer sale

The Midland and Western Livestock Improvement Society hosted a Pedigree Non-Continental breed bull and heifer show and sale at The Showgrounds, Carrick on Shannon, Co. Roscommon on Saturday, April 5.

Angus bulls dominated the trade on the day with the top price of €10,700 going to Angus bull Drumcrow Armageddon sired by Hw Abacus and bred by Margaret McKiernan from Co. Cavan.

Auctioneer Francis McGowan was taking the bids on the day and 53 of the 58 Angus bulls offered in the sale were sold, with an average sale price of €4,292 achieved.

The Champion Angus bull was Troyswood Anthony sired by Liss Brendan. This one sold for €5,500 and was bred by Seamus Neary from Co. Kilkenny.

The Reserve Champion Angus bull in the pre-sale show was Drumcarbin Leatol Weapon sired by Drumcrow Reeko and this one sold for €6,300 bred by Shane McKiernan from Co. Cavan.

Other top Angus bull prices included:

  • €8,400 for Drumcrow Putins Rage sired by Hw Abacus and bred by Nevan McKiernan from Co. Cavan;
  • €7,200 for Millbawn Wylder sired by Rawburn Jagger Eric and bred by Amanda Bogan from Co. Longford;
  • €7,000 –for Clooncarne Artist sired by Knockmountagh Robert and bred by Thomas Mulligan from Co. Leitrim;
  • €6,900 for Ellens Anthony sired by Drumcrow Reeko and bred by Niall Conaty from Co. Cavan;
  • €6,700 for Laheens Alisder sired by Fordel Lockdown and bred by Cormac Duignan from Co. Leitrim;
  • €5,600 for Huntsgrove Arthur sired by Prohurst Eoghann and bred by Alison Sheridan, from Co. Cavan;
  • €5,500 for Borrough Wizard sired by Drumcrow Tribesman and bred by Seamus Prior, from Co. Leitrim.

A total of 10 of the 16 Angus heifers offered in the pedigree bull and heifer sale sold at a strong average of €4,210.

The Champion Angus heifer in the pre-sale show was Loughglass Willow sired by Fordel Lockdown and bred by Lisa Dowd from Co. Galway. This heifer sold for €8,000.

The Reserve Champion Angus heifer was Laheens Daisy sired by Hw Farghal and bred by Cormac Duignan from Co. Leitrim. This heifer also sold for €8,000.

Other notable Angus heifer prices included:

  • €4,400 for Coneyisland Winnie sired by Netherton Faudango and bred by Niall Regan from Co. Roscommon;
  • €4,300 for Garranard Anntonette sired by Laheens Ulyesses and bred by Joseph Finnerty from Co. Mayo;
  • €3,350 for Garranard Anita sired by Laheens Ulyesses and bred by Joseph Finnerty, from Co. Mayo;
  • €3,350 for Mong Auspicious sired by Kealkil Prime Lad and bred by Joseph Farrell, from Co. Leitrim.

Selling for €2,950 was Kilmahon George sired by Trillick George and bred by Michael Lynch from Co. Longford.

Three of the eight Shorthorn bulls on offer sold for an average price of €2,933. Selling at €4,700 was Glannview Breeze sired by Bethlehem Breeze and bred by Adrian Flatley from Co. Mayo.

Three of the five Shorthorn heifers offered in the sale sold to an average of €2,467 with €3,150 paid for Elphin Dainty sired by Chapelton Nijinsky and bred by Thomas Gormley from Co. Roscommon.
