Carrick on Shannon multi-breed sale sees 3 bulls hit €5k

The Midland and Western Livestock Improvement Society hosted a mixed breed show and sale of bulls on Saturday, March 8, at the Showgrounds, Carrick on Shannon, Co. Roscommon, with 33 of the 47 animals present sold resulting in a 70% clearance rate.

The top price of €5,000 was paid for three bulls, two of which were Angus and one of which was a Charolais

Of the 24 Angus bulls exhibited on the day, 19 sold at average price of €3,580.

The champion Liscolvin Wallace, sired by Liscolvin  S Esmerica and bred by Martin Garvey from Carrick on Shannon, Co. Leitrim sold for €5,000.

Michael Doorley from Strokestown Co. Roscommon also secured €5,000 in the sales ring for Cloonmurray Wham, sired by Clonmurray Underdog .

The aforementioned Martin Garvey also sold his August 2023-born bull Liscolvin Warren sired by Carrigroe Real McCoy for €4,500.

The Reserve Champion on the day Clooncarne Willock, sired by Hw Farghal sold for €4,400 for  breeder Thomas Mulligan from Dromod, Co. Leitrim.

Amanda Flynn from Killala, Co. Mayo sold her December 2023-born bull Gortoher John Jo, sired by Tonley Royal Legend for €4,200.

The two Limousin bulls present on Saturday sold well with Paddy Farrell from Co. Leitrim achieving €4,900 for his April 2023 born bull Sheemore Ultraball, sired by Ewdenvale Ivor, while €4,000 was achieved by Helen and Noel Faughnan from Mohill, Co. Leitrim for Lisdadnan Victor - another son of Ewdenvale Ivor.

The top price for Charolais bulls was achieved by Brendan Flynn from Aghacashel, Co. Leitrim when he sold his reserve champion Aughlin Unbeatable ET, sired by the renowned Doonally New for €5,000.

The Charolais Champion Lissergool Usher sired by Teevo Jacques and bred by Padraic Timon from Castlerea, Co. Roscommon remaining  unsold.

  • Portnason Ultan, sired by Lapon and bred by Edward Vaughan from Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal;
  • Darberfindav Vance sired by Ocean and owned by Thomas Battles from Boyle, Co. Roscommon;
  • Corralara Vance sired by Fiston and bred by Michael and Mary McGowan from Carrick on Shannon, Co. Leitrim.

Four animals sold to Northern Ireland-based customers on the day. The sale venue in Carrick on Shannon is set to host show and sales for Angus, Hereford, and Shorthorn, as well as all continental breeds in April.
