Charolais cull cow and bull clears €3,000 at separate sales
A 922kg Charolais cull cow sold for €3,000 while a Charolais stock bull over a tonne weight sold for €3,080 at two separate cattle sales over the weekend.
The cull cow was sold at Carnew Mart in Co. Wicklow, which hosted its weekly general cattle sale on Saturday, October 19, with almost 1,200 head of cattle on offer.
The top-price of the sale went to the 922kg Charolais cow that was bought by an agent for Kavanagh Meats in Co. Wexford, for further feeding at a price of €3,000 or €3.25/kg.
Good heifers met a powerful trade in the sale also, with a top price of €1,650 or 3.47/kg paid for a 476kg Belgian Blue-cross heifer.

The trade for bullocks saw some "very strong prices throughout", according to Carnew Mart's Eugene Clune, with friesian bullocks making up to €2.60/kg.
"Runners and reared calves made from €420-€660/head", he added.
The stock bull was sold at Dowra Mart in Co. Cavan which hosted its weekly general cattle sale on Saturday, October 19, with just under 880 head of cattle sold.
In the dry cow sale, the top price of €2,600 went to a Simmental cow weighing 895kg and a total of 25 cows made over the €2,000 price tag.
The Charolais stock bull weighing 1,045kg sold for €3,080 or €2.94/kg bought by a feeder.
In the heifer sale at Dowra Mart, the top price of €2,100 went to a 715kg Charolais-cross heifer.
Another 285kg Charolais-cross weanling heifer sold for €1,330 or €4.67/kg and another Charolais-cross heifer weighing 475kg sold for €1,700.
A Charolais-cross bull weanling weighing 280kg sold for €1,200 or €4.29/kg and in the bullock sale at the west Cavan mart venue €2,580 was paid for an 875kg Charolais-cross bullock while a 420kg Charolais-cross bullock sold for €1,560.
