CSO: Cattle and milk drive increase in agri output price index

The agricultural output price index increased by 18.9% in the 12 months to June 2025, new figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show.

The agricultural input price index rose slightly by 0.6% in the same timeframe.

The most significant output price increases in the 12 months to June 2025 were in cattle (43.6%) and milk (11.9%), while a decrease was recorded in potatoes (15.7%).

Over the 12 months, increases in input prices were recorded for fertilisers (10.5%) and veterinary expenses (4.7%), while motor fuels fell by 6.2%. 

Terms of trade fell by 0.7% in June 2025 when compared with the previous month and was 18.2% higher when compared with June 2024.

Sam Scriven, senior statistician in the agriculture division, said: "Agricultural prices fell in the month to June 2025 with the agricultural output price index decreasing by 1% and the agricultural input price Index falling by 0.2%."

Recent figures from the CSO show that the consumer price index (CPI) rose by 1.7% between July 2024 and July 2025.

This is down from an annual increase of 1.8% in the 12 months to June 2025, the CSO said.

Excluding energy and unprocessed food, the CPI grew by 1.8% in the 12 months to July 2025.

The divisions with the largest increases in the 12 months to July 2025 were food and non-alcoholic beverages (4.7%) and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (3%).

The divisions to record the largest declines when compared with July 2024 were transport (2.8%) and clothing and footwear (2.4%).

Consumer prices rose by 0.1% in the month between June 2025 and July 2025.
