CSO: Producer prices for food up by over 6% in year to May 2025

Producer prices for food products increased by 6.3% in the 12 months to May 2025, while the 'Food Products, Beverages & Tobacco Index' was up by 5.1%.

That's according to the latest data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) published today (Monday, June 23).

Some of the most notable changes in producer prices for food products over the 12 months to May 2025 were: dairy products (+22%); meat and meat products (+7.9%); vegetables and animal oils and fats (-16.2%).

The data showed that wholesale electricity prices fell by 2.3% in the month to May 2025 but were 0.8% higher than May 2024.

Domestic producer prices for manufactured goods were on average 0.9% higher in May 2025 compared with a year earlier, while producer prices for exported goods were down by 2%.

Overall, manufacturing producer prices were 1.8% lower in the year.

The most noteworthy changes in other producer prices in the year to May 2025 were: chemicals and chemical products (+17.4%); furniture (+3.6%); rubber and plastic products (-2.6%); mining and quarrying (-2.6%).

Wholesale prices for construction products grew by 0.1% in the month to May 2025 and rose by 0.9% in the 12 months since May 2024, according to the CSO.

All indices in the series are based on prices on the 15th of the month. Quarterly and annual indices are simple averages of the corresponding monthly indices.

Prices used in the compilation of the indices are:

  • Excluding delivery charges itemised on the invoice separately;
  • After discounts or surcharges are applied;
  • Before addition of direct subsidies;
  • Exclusive of VAT (except for private vehicles);
  • Inclusive of excise duty.

Every effort is made by the Wholesale Prices Section to collect all prices for the relevant month. Where this is not possible late prices are included in the following month’s calculations, according to the CSO.
