The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine has published the 2025 spring wheat and spring oat recommended lists.
Where spring wheat is concerned, three varieties are fully recommended: KWS Fixum, KWS Helium and WPB Duncan.
Fixum has a relative yield of 101. It is a moderately late maturing variety.
Fixum is moderately resistant to lodging, moderately resistant to mildew and moderately susceptible to Septoria. However, the variety is susceptible to yellow rust.
It demonstrates good resistance to sprouting; grain quality is good.
Helium has a relative yield of 98. It is another moderately early maturing variety. Helium is moderately susceptible to lodging. It shows good resistance to mildew and sprouting while being moderately susceptible to septoria and yellow rust. Grain quality is very good.
Duncan has a relative yield of 100. It is a late maturing variety. Duncan is moderately susceptible to lodging.
It also demonstrates moderately resistant to mildew and septoria. The variety shows good resistance to yellow rust and sprouting. Grain quality is also good.
Spring Oats
Where spring oat varieties are concerned, Husky and WPB Isabel are fully recommended. An additional two varieties are provisionally recommended: KWS Titant and WPB Enya.
Husky has a relative yield of 97. It is a very early maturing variety, demonstrating moderate resistance to lodging and moderately susceptible to straw breakdown.
Husky is moderately susceptible to mildew and susceptible to crown rust. Grain quality is good.
Isabel has a relative yield of 103. It is a moderately early maturing variety, showing good resistance to lodging and very good resistance to straw breakdown.
Isabel is moderately susceptible to mildew and crown rust. Grain quality is very good.
Titant has a relative yield of 99. It is a moderately early maturing variety. Titant is a short variety that is moderately susceptible to lodging and straw breakdown.
It shows very good resistance to mildew and is moderately susceptible to crown rust. Grain quality is good.
Enya has a relative yield of 99. It is a moderately late maturing variety. Enya demonstrates moderate resistance to lodging and has good resistance to straw breakdown. It is moderately susceptible to mildew and crown rust. Grain quality is good.
