€2.5m issued to farmers in scheme payments last week - DAFM

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) issued over €2.5 million in scheme payments to farmers last week.

The latest data, published by the department, shows that €1.1 million of that total was paid out under the Targeted Agricultural Modernisation Schemes (TAMS).

Just over €1 million was issued under TAMS 3 last week, while a further €31,600 was approved under TAMS 2.

€56.8 million has now been paid out to date under TAMS 3 across 6,425 claims.

26,436 applications for TAMS 3 have been approved by the department, with 8,326 payment applications submitted.

An additional €698,000 was paid out in the week up to April 11 under the 2024 Basic Income Support for Sustainability (BISS) Scheme and Complimentary Redistributive Income Support for Sustainability (CRISS).

Approximately 119,255 farmers have now received a total of €842.4 million in payments under these schemes.

The BISS/CRISS figure includes the 2024 Complementary Income Support for Young Farmers of €36.7 million and the 2024 National Reserve of €3.1 million.

DAFM issued €618,000 to farmers under the Sheep Improvement Scheme (SIS) last week.

An additional €70,000 was paid to participants in the Organic Farming Scheme (OFS), with total payments for the 2024 scheme now standing at €48.6 million to 4,715 farmers.

The department paid out a further €61,000 to farmers for the Areas of Natural Constraint (ANC) and Areas of Specific Constraint (ASC).

An additional €9,000 was paid to farmers under under the Green, Low-carbon, Agri-Environment Scheme (GLAS).

Last week, DAFM announced the reopening of the CAP Strategic Plan (CSP) Dairy Beef Welfare Scheme (DBWS) for new applicants.

The scheme has a budget of €25 million over four years (2024 – 2027) and is co-funded by the European Union as part of the CSP.

The Dairy Beef Welfare Scheme supports dairy farmers to improve the animal health and welfare of the national herd by using better genetic merit beef sires.

Payment is €20 per eligible calf, up to a maximum of 50 calves, for each of the scheme years that the applicant is an active participant.

New applicants, or the Farm Advisory System (FAS) advisor authorised to act on their behalf, can submit their application to the CSP Dairy Beef Welfare Scheme online through Agfood.ie until 23:59p.m on May 15, 2025.
