The search is on for the next FBD Young Farmer of the Year, with potential contenders now invited to apply for this annual accolade.

This prestigious award, which has been celebrating the best of Irish agriculture since 1999, highlights the incredible talent, innovation, and passion of young farmers shaping the future of farming in Ireland.

This year’s competition was launched on the farm of the current Young Farmer of the Year, Christopher Cahill, who took home the coveted title in 2024.

Agriland spoke to Christopher at the National Ploughing Championship 2024 just a week after he won the award - see the video below.

Reflecting on his win, Christopher said: “It was such a shock to win it, but I’m absolutely delighted, it has been phenomenal.”

His enthusiasm for the competition echoes the excitement and pride that comes with being recognised as one of Ireland’s top young farmers.

This award has grown to become one of the most iconic events in Irish agriculture, celebrating the ambition, determination, and hard work of the country’s emerging agricultural leaders.

More than just an accolade, the competition serves as a platform for young farmers to showcase their skills, their innovative approaches to farming, and their commitment to sustainability.

Each year, the competition reflects the constantly changing nature of the agricultural industry.

With Ireland’s farming sector constantly adapting to new challenges – from technological advancements and sustainability demands to changes in farming practices and regulations – the FBD Young Farmer of the Year competition has evolved to recognise and reward these changes.

In addition to the enterprise categories, the competition now includes a variety of categories, such as the Macra Agricultural Skillnet Biodiversity Award, Land Mobility, and Career Farm Manager, all of which shine a light on the diverse expertise young farmers bring to the table.

If you are a young farmer who is ready to take your place among Ireland’s agricultural leaders, entering the FBD Young Farmer of the Year competition could be your opportunity to shine.

The competition is open to all farmers under the age of 35, with an emphasis on recognising the wide range of skills needed to succeed in modern farming.

The competition provides a unique chance to showcase your farm’s achievements and demonstrate your ability to adapt to the ever-changing landscape of Irish agriculture.

Entries are open until July 7 - apply today.

FBD Insurance has been a proud sponsor of the Young Farmer of the Year competition since its inception, and we remain committed to supporting Ireland’s next generation of farmers.

As the competition evolves, so too does the farming industry, and we are excited to see how young farmers continue to drive positive change in agriculture.

This competition is more than just an award – it is a celebration of the bright future ahead for Irish farming.
