The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has said that two separate food recall notices have been issued for breaded chicken products and ready meals.
The authority said that a recall was issued for specific batches of Marks and Spencer breaded chicken products due to the possible presence of salmonella.
The batches of Marks and Spencer Crispy Southern Fried Chicken Burgers subject to the recall have 'use by' dates of January 26, January 30, January 31 and February 1, 2025.
The Marks and Spencer 2 Chicken Kyivs packs included in the recall have a 'use by' date of January 26, 2025.
The FSAI said that consumers are advised not to eat the implicated batches, adding that recall notices will be displayed at point-of-sale.
According to the FSAI, people infected with salmonella typically develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection, but this can range between six and 72 hours.
The most common symptom is diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody. Other symptoms may include fever, headache and abdominal cramps. The illness usually lasts four to seven days.
Diarrhoea can occasionally be severe enough to require hospital admission. The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness.
Meanwhile, in a separate update, the FSAI has issued a recall for Gleesons Butchers ready meals as they were produced in an unapproved establishment which is not subject to official controls.
The recall applies to the all batches and 'use by' dates of the following products:
Retailers are requested to remove the implicated products from sale and display recall notices at point-of-sale.
The FSAI added that consumers are advised not to eat the implicated products.
