Funded part-time master's for farmers open for applications

A unique AgInnovation master’s from the University of Galway, which the college has said helps farmers turn passion into profit has opened for applications from farmers.The part-time Level 9 course is aimed at working farmers and rural entrepreneurs to help them develop new income streams, add value to what they already do, and unlock new opportunities on or off the land.

One graduate, who has since launched a successful farm tourism venture said: "The farm was hard work - exhausting, in fact. So was I."

Delivered through online evening classes (2hrs/wk) and 10 Saturday workshops, the one-year programme walks participants through research, critical thinking, financials, marketing, business planning, funding and other areas that help students focus on what they have.

The university said that the programme enables students to combine practicalities with passion.

"Whether you’re dreaming of a farm shop, a food brand, or something completely new – this masters in AgInnovation gives you the tools and confidence to take the next step," the college has stated.

Programme director and advocate for entrepreneurship in rural Ireland, Prof. John Breslin said: “Farmers already have many of the skills needed to innovate.

"We’ve helped people launch farm shops, food brands, tech services - all starting with an idea at the kitchen table.”

The deadline for applications is next Wednesday, July 31 at 5:00p.m and the programme is 90% funded for those in employment and 100% funded for eligible unemployed applicants.

No formal qualifications are needed for the programme but participants are encouraged to have a passion for rural Ireland.
