Gardaí investigate spate of burglaries in Cavan

Investigations by An Garda Síochána are ongoing for a number of burglaries that occurred in Co. Cavan on Monday, January 6.

Gardaí responded to a number of burglaries that occurred in The Gallops and Rocklands areas between 6:00p.m and 6:50p.m.

The second burglary occurred in the Virginia area at approximately 7:20p.m. Investigations remain ongoing for both incidences, with no arrests made.

During darker evenings, gardaí advise homeowners to pay particular attention to protecting homes as this is when burglaries traditionally tend to rise.

On social media, gardaí have warned the public to be "extra vigilant" when leaving homes vacant, even for a few minutes.

An Garda Síochána in Co. Meath stated: "We would advise that before leaving the house, ensure that all doors and windows are secured and the alarm is set (use your alarm even when at home). If you don’t have an alarm, consider getting one."

Gardaí also advised those leaving their homes to use timer switches, store keys safely and away from windows and letterboxes, and to not store large amounts of cash in the home. All jewellery of high monetary value could perhaps be kept in a safe.

All suspicious activity should be reported to gardaí immediately. Home owners have been reminded to be "vigilant" and look out for elderly neighbours and vulnerable neighbours.
