Gardaí have confirmed that a man in Co. Kerry was taken to hospital last night (Wednesday, April 23) after the car he was driving collided with cattle.
The single vehicle incident happened around 10:30p.m in the Kilfenora area, around 10km from Tralee.
Emergency services attended the scene and the man, who is aged in his 20s, was taken to University Hospital Kerry (UHK) with non-life threatening injuries.
It is understood that all of the four cattle involved in the incident did not survive.
In a statement, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána told Agriland:
"Gardaí attended the scene of a road traffic collision that occurred in the Kilfenora area, Co. Kerry on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
"The incident occurred at approximately 10:30pm and involved one vehicle that impacted with cattle.
"The driver, a man in his 20s, was conveyed to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The cattle are deceased."
The garda spokesperson added that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Earlier this month, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) shared details of what was described as a “very luck escape” for one driver after rural neighbourhood officers were called to the scene of a road traffic collision involving a cow.
According to officers a black cow on an unlit road led to a written off car but also added “thankfully a safe and well, but shaken up driver”.
The collision with the cow took place on the outskirts of Ballymoney in Co. Antrim.
In a social media post PSNI officers from Causeway Coast and Glens detailed that the cow had “bounced up the bonnet and onto the windscreen which thankfully held until the driver got stopped”.
“Thankfully this driver was doing the speed limit which may have saved his life.
“Unfortunately the animal involved sustained injuries which were beyond repair and was seen to by a local vet who attended the scene,” they added.
