Gardaí: Man killed in quad bike collision in Co. Westmeath

A male driver of quad bike, aged in his 20s, was fatally injured in a road traffic collision at Ballynascarry, Finea, Co. Westmeath, gardaí have confirmed.

Both gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the fatal road traffic collision that took place yesterday (Saturday, February, 22) but the driver of the quad bike was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road traffic collision had involved a quad bike and motorcycle according to gardaí.

The male driver of the motorcycle, also aged in his 20s, was taken from the scene of the collision to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in a critical condition.

However another male passenger of the quad bike, aged in his 20s was taken to Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore with "non-life threatening injuries".

No other injuries were reported.A technical examination of the road where the collision took place is due to be carried out by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators this afternoon (Sunday, February 23).

Gardaí have issued an appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the collision at Ballynascarry, Finea, Co. Westmeath, to contact them.

"Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in Ballynascarry, Finea between 3:00pm and 4:00pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Mullingar Garda Station on 044 938 4000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda Station," they stated.

Last month the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) had also issued an appeal for information following the death of boy in an incident involving a quad bike.

Police confirmed that a 13-year-old boy, who had been a pupil at St Paul's High School in Bessbrook and played for Killeavy GAA club, died following a collision involving a quad bike on the Low Road, Killeavy, Co. Armagh.

The PSNI had launched an investigation to "establish the circumstances" surrounding the incident and had appealed to anyone with CCTV, dash-cam or doorbell footage to help them with their enquiries.
