Members of An Garda Síochána in Co. Donegal seized a quad in Falcarragh, Co. Donegal last weekend (August 2025).
In a post on social media, Gardaí said that the quad, which was being driven by a "young teenage driver", was seized by Gardaí from Milford Roads Policing Unit.
In the post Gardaí said: "When a quad is used on a public road they are subject to the same rules as any other MPV. They are required to be registered, taxed and in a good roadworthy condition.
"The driver must hold the appropriate driving licence and must be insured to drive the vehicle. This was not the case today in Falcarragh when Gardaí from Milford Roads Policing Unit came across a young teenage driver on a public road. The quad was seized.
"We ask parents to speak to their youths in relation to the dangers associated with quad bikes and also in relation to the law surrounding the use of them," Gardaí added.
An Garda Síochána highlighted that quads are powerful machines, and have the potential to severely or even fatally injure someone.
Separately, last week (August 8) members of An Garda Síochána pulled a motorist driving a tractor carrying "a full load" of silage over for using his mobile phone.
In a post on social media, Gardaí said that the man has "landed deep in it" after he was spotted using his phone while driving.
According to the Gardaí, a fixed notice charge has been issued to the driver of the tractor.
It is an offence to hold a mobile phone in your hand, or to support it with another part of your body (for example, between your head and shoulder), while driving.
The only exception is if you are calling emergency services on 999 or 112.
You can legally talk on your phone using a hands-free system, but the Road Safety Authority advises very strongly against this.
