"Two dogs had gone into the field and attacked the sheep. One of the neighbours jumped into the field to stop it, and the two dogs went to attack him. He went inside to get the gun, by the time he came back out the dogs were gone," he added.

The farmer's neighbours assisted the farmer to bring the lambs back to the farmyard.

"I went into the field and it was carnage. There were dead lambs scattered across the field.

"The ewes and lambs were in a ball in the middle of the field with wounded lambs all scattered through them.

"When I started walking around the field there were ewes and lambs everywhere. We spent most of the morning clearing them out and the vet came," he added.
