Kerry Dairy Ireland has announced that Maeve Cusack has been awarded the 2025 SDT/ICDA Dairy Technology Student of the Year Award.
The accolade, jointly sponsored by the Society of Dairy Technology (SDT) and the International Cheese and Dairy Awards (ICDA), recognises exceptional student contributions to the dairy industry.
Maeve recently completed her Master of Science (MSc) in Dairy Process Technology at University College Cork (UCC).
She was honoured for her research project titled “Protein Standardisation of Milk Powder-based Systems Using Milk Ultrafiltration Permeate.”
The judges praised her work for its technical depth, logical approach, and clear demonstration of return on investment for the dairy sector.
Pat Murphy, chief executive of Kerry Dairy Ireland, said that the company is "incredibly proud of Maeve and delighted to see her work recognised at an international level".
"Her project reflects the innovation and scientific excellence that drives our business forward.
"This award is a testament to the value of our partnership with UCC and our shared commitment to developing the next generation of dairy professionals," he said.
Marian Pusey, executive director of the Society of Dairy Technology, noted that Maeve’s study was "technically proficient, logically structured, and demonstrated a strong return on investment".
"We’re delighted to see this year’s award go to such a deserving candidate from UCC and Kerry Dairy Ireland," she said.
Dr. Seamus O’Mahony, academic programme director of the MSc in Dairy Process Technology at UCC, added: “This award is a fantastic endorsement of Maeve’s capabilities and the impact of the MSc programme.
"Ireland needs to develop a leadership position in dairy production and processing sustainability, and Maeve’s work is a great example of how high-quality graduates can help the sector thrive.”
Maeve received her award at the SDT annual dinner at Staffordshire County Showground, on the eve of the International Cheese and Dairy Expo.
She was joined at the event by her project mentor, Ger Behan of Kerry Dairy Ireland.
