The Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon has launched phase 2 of the Food Vision 2030 Dashboard.
The official launch took place at the thirteenth meeting of the Food Vision 2030 High Level Implementation Committee (HLIC) yesterday, March 27.
According to Minister Heydon, the dashboard is a key component of the implementation of the vision.
He said: "Phase 1 focused on mission 1 environmental indicators, and phase 2 expands the dashboard to include economic and social sustainability indicators for missions 2, 3 and 4.
"The dashboard establishes baseline data that will be used to assess, monitor and identify our progress in achieving our sustainability ambitions under Food Vision 2030, encompassing all the different pillars of sustainability - economic, environmental and social," he added.
The Food Vision 2030 strategy is a ten year strategy for the Irish agri-food sector. It's vision is that Ireland will become a world leader in Sustainable Food Systems (SFS).
At the launch, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM), Teagasc, and the Irish Cattle Breeding Federation (ICBF) also received an update of on the implementation of the dairy calf to beef 10 point action plan.
A number of key developments were reported including the increase in beef artificial insemination (AI) serves in dairy herds and the increase in calves being genotyped.
The importance of Commercial Beef Value (CBV) as a tool for farmers was also highlighted, as well as the wider potential for high profit dairy calf to beef systems.
Reflecting on this potential, Teagasc now includes dairy-beef as a category in the National Farm Survey.
The HLIC meeting also discussed the progress of the women in agriculture action plan, contributions from the Food Vision Industry Group, and the publication of the environmental sub-group annual monitoring and indicator report for 2024.
