A man has died in a workplace incident at a farm in Newtowncunningham in Co. Donegal.
Gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene of the fatal workplace accident at the premises in Co. Donegal today (Monday, February 24) at approximately 1:00p.m.
According to gardaí the man, in his 60s, was "pronounced deceased at the scene and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course."
The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has also been notified and "will attend the scene, which remains preserved at this time" they added.Gardai have confirmed that a file will be prepared for the Coroner's Court and that investigations into the workplace accident are ongoing.
It is the third incident this month which has resulted in a tragedy on a farm.
Gardaí confirmed that a man in his 60s had died following an incident in February on a farm located in Co. Kerry. The incident took place in the Ballylongford area in the north of the county.
In a statement to Agriland a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána confirmed that gardaí went to the scene in response to a medical emergency.
The spokesperson said that the man was pronounced dead at the scene and a file was prepared for the local coroner.
Separately a man in his 60s died following an incident on a farm in Co. Leitrim at the beginning of the month.
The incident happened on a farm in the Mohill area, which is in the south of the county.
The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) was notified of both incidents investigations were launched.
According to the HSA the agriculture, forestry and fishing sector accounted for 12 work related fatalities in 2024, all of which were farming incidents representing over a third of all fatalities from a sector employing just 4% of the workforce.
