A Meath-based breeder, William Smith, has taken top honours at this year’s Limousin class at the Virginia Show.
Smith’s heifer bet off tough competition from a record entry of 50 animals to be crowned the overall winner of the North Eastern Limousin Club’s annual showpiece.
The competition was judged by Co. Wexford breeder, Trevor Masterson, while over 220 delegates from the International Limousin Congress were also on hand to take a look at the Limousin breed in Ireland.
Co. Monaghan breeder, Kevin Treanor’s 10-month old bull calf, Clontown Konkey, had to settle for the reserve Champion title.
Before the overall champion was crowned, the son of Ampertaine Foreman had already been successful in the Male Calf and Overall Male Championships.
And, the impressive looking young bull is now destined for a new life in Scotland after being sold for €8,000 in Tullamore last week.
The Female Calf Championship was won by Michael Molly’s seven-month old heifer, after Plumtree Fantastic.
The heifer coming from Molloy’s farm in Dunleer, Co. Louth was also crowned the reserve in the overall Female Championship.
