Merlo appoints Nunan Farm Machinery in the west

Merlo is continuing its expansion in Ireland with the appointment of Nunan Farm Machinery of Broadford, Co. Limerick, as the latest dealer for the company's range of telehandlers.

The dealership is well-known throughout the area, operating from modern premises which were completed in 2004 and now contains a well-stocked shop and parts counter.

The area to be covered by Nunan Farm Machinery will include the counties of Limerick, Kerry, north Tipperary, Clare and the southern part of Galway.

It presently carries a number of prominent franchises including McHale and Abbey with a large yard and plenty of stock of both new and second hand stock. Pottinger was added to the range in 1987.

The company was started by John Nunan who had been working as a mechanic in nearby Dromcolliher at a car garage.

In 1959, he purchased a house in Broadford with an adjoining shed and carried on with his work from these new premises.

It wasn't long before he was approached by Farmhand who offered him an agency after he had phoned the company looking for spares, Abbey followed soon afterwards and other franchises have been added along the way.

The company has also been active in selling tractors over the years, both used and new with Zetor and SAME being two brands it has held dealerships for.

The present managing director of Nunan Farm Machinery, is Maurice Nunan, who joined the company in 1985 and served as president of the FTMTA in 1999 and 2001.

Nunan noted that: "We recognise that every product we sell, is only as good as the service that supports it. We’re excited about this new partnership with Merlo.

"A telehandler is an indispensable machine for so many of our customers and adding a telehandler franchise to our product range, not only complements our existing line-up, but offers our customers a fantastic product backed by Nunan Farm Machinery support."
