Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow weather warning for several counties which come into force tomorrow (Thursday, October 24).

The national forecaster said that there will be heavy and persistent rain in counties Clare, Galway, Limerick and Mayo.

The warning will be valid from 3:00p.m on Thursday until 3:00a.m on Friday (October 25).

Met Éireann said that the rain will lead to possible localised flooding, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions in the affected counties.

Another Status Yellow rainfall warning has been issued for Cork and Kerry from 3:00p.m on Thursday until 1:00p.m on Friday

Along with heavy and persistent rain, there is a risk of thunderstorms in these parts of the country.

Meanwhile, northerly winds will reach gale force 8 or strong gale force 9 along coasts from Mizen Head to Valentia to Slyne Head tomorrow and into Friday.

Met Éireann

Met Éireann has said that rainfall amounts over the coming week are expected be higher than average in the west, southwest and coastal parts of the east with between 1.5 and 2 times the average rainfall.

The rainfall amounts in other areas are expected to be closer to average or slightly below average.

It will be milder than recently with mean air temperatures expected to be slightly above average, ranging between 12 and 14°  generally. Mean soil temperatures will likely remain just above average.

Met Éireann also said that all soils are currently saturated and most poorly drained soils are waterlogged, except for parts of the east.

Due to the rain, moderate and poorly drained soils will become largely waterlogged.

There is a chance of some drier weather developing after the weekend which may help soils to recover slightly. Trafficability in fields is expected to remain poor.
