Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow weather warning for rainfall in several counties today (Saturday, June 14).
The national forecaster said that there will be further falls of heavy rain today in counties Dublin; Louth; Meath and Wicklow.
The warning which came into force this morning will remain in place until 6:00p.m this evening.
Met Éireann said the conditions will bring a risk of possible localised flooding, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions.
A separate Status Yellow thunderstorm warning is in place until 6:00p.m for Carlow; Cork; Kilkenny; Tipperary; Waterford; and Wexford.
The UK Met Office has issued a similar warning for Antrim, Armagh and Down.
That alert, which is also in place until 6:00p.m today, notes that heavy rain and thunderstorms may lead to some disruption.
In its outlook, Met Éireann said that heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected over the next few days.
However, conditions are due to become more settled from early next week.
Rainfall amounts are expected to be below average in the north and west, and above average in the east during the next seven days.
Met Éireann also said that temperatures will trend above average over the coming week.
Most areas saw soil temperatures close to or slightly higher than normal over the past week, with temperatures across the midlands up to 1.9°C above average. Soil temperatures are forecast to rise a little over the coming week.
Due to showers over the weekend, drying will be rather poor. Conditions will improve by midweek as high pressure builds.
There will be some spraying opportunities from Monday onwards as rainfall becomes less frequent.
Soil moisture deficits will begin to increase from Monday onwards.
Met Éireann has also issued an advisory for potato blight, with conditions conducive to spreading the disease set to develop from Sunday.
