Met Éireann: Mixed weather conditions expected this week

Met Éireann has said that this week will bring mixed weather conditions with temperatures around average.

The national forecaster said many parts of the country will be dry today (Tuesday, July 5), with some sunny spells.

The moderate to fresh west to north-west winds will decreasing light to moderate later in highest temperatures of 15°-21°C.

Tonight will be dry with some clear spells, the south-westerly or variable winds will fall allowing mist patches to form. Lowest temperatures of 8°-12°.

Wednesday will begin dry with hazy sunshine, but cloud will build from the west bringing patchy outbreaks of rain and drizzle which will turn more persistent in Atlantic coastal counties.

Highest daytime temperatures of 17°-21° in light to moderate south to south-west winds increasing moderate to fresh by the evening, strong to gale force and gusty near Atlantic coasts.

Wednesday night will see rain and drizzle extend eastwards before clearing to showers. The southerly winds will gradually ease and veer south-west to west. Overnight lows of 12°-16°.

Thursday will be a largely dry and bright day with sunshine and scattered showers. Highest temperatures of 16°-21° in moderate, occasionally fresh and gusty west to southwest winds.

Clear spells and well-scattered showers on Thursday night in the west and north-west. Lowest temperatures of 8°-13° with light to moderate south-west winds.

Friday is expected to bring a mixture of cloud and sunny spells with some scattered showers in the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 16°-21° in moderate to fresh and occasionally gusty south-west to west winds, strongest in the west and north-west.

The current indications suggest Saturday will be mostly dry with a few showers, while Sunday will be a breezy day with showers or longer spells of rain in the west and north.

Met Éireann said rainfall amounts will remain below average for most areas over the coming week.

It is forecast to be driest in the south and east, but will be between 80-100% generally for northern and Atlantic coastal areas.

Over the coming week, mean air temperatures will generally range between 15°-17°. Mean soil temperatures will continue above normal.

Moderate or good drying conditions are expected for much of the rest of the working week between showers.

Met Éireann said there will be some spraying opportunities today and Wednesday, though winds will be moderate or fresh in parts of the west and north. There will be further opportunities between showers on Thursday and Friday.

Currently, soils in the south, south-west, mid-west and east have soil moisture deficits of 5-25mm generally, but reaching up to 45mm in parts of the far south.
