Met Éireann: Mostly cloud with some rain over the weekend

Met Éireann has said that weather conditions over the weekend will be mostly cloudy with spells of rain in places.

The national forecaster said this morning, St. Valentine's Day (Friday, February 14), will be damp and blustery with rain and drizzle.

The rain will become more persistent in the south and west, with some spot flooding possible. In the afternoon, the rain will clear from the south and southwest, followed by sunny spells.

Highest afternoon temperatures of 8 to 12°C , feeling cooler in the north and east, in moderate to fresh southeast winds, which will ease during the afternoon.

Status Yellow weather warnings for heavy rain are currently in place for Cork and Waterford.

The rain will lead to possible spot flooding, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions on roads.

The warning for Cork will be valid until 8:00a.m today, while the alert for Waterford runs until 12:00p.m today.

It will be mainly cloudy tonight with some light rain or drizzle, mostly in the south and east, drier in the west. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 7° in light to moderate east or southeast breezes. Some fog patches will form.

Saturday will be a cloudy day with further patches of rain and drizzle, mixed with dry periods. There is a possibility of more persistent rain in the southwest by evening.

Highest daytime temperatures of 9 to 12° generally, but 5 to 9° degrees for Ulster, in light to moderate east or southeast winds.

The persistent rain will extend into the southwest and west on Saturday night, bringing a risk of spot flooding. Elsewhere, it will be drier, but with some odd patches of rain and drizzle. Overnight temperatures of 2 to 7° in mostly moderate east or southeast winds.

The rain will become patchier on Sunday in the southwest allowing for good dry spells to develop in the afternoon. It will be cloudy in other parts where there will be some patchy rain and drizzle.

Highest temperatures on Sunday of 5 to 9°, feeling milder in the southwest with moderate, occasionally fresh southeasterly winds.

Cloudy with some patchy rain and drizzle at first on Sunday night before more persistent and locally heavy rain moves in from the west. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 8° with mostly moderate southeast winds.

Monday will be a wet day with widespread rain, which will be heavy at times. Highest daytime temperatures of 8 to 12°, but 4 to 7° for Ulster, in moderate to fresh southeast winds.

Following a wet start, the rain will clear from the south through Tuesday morning, becoming drier, but there will also be some patches of rain and drizzle. Highest temperatures of 9 to 13° with fresh and gusty south or southeast winds.

Current indications are for unsettled conditions for the rest of the week with further spells of rain.

In its outlook, Met Éireann said that during the coming week the rain will be heaviest in the south and southwest with higher than normal rainfall amounts.

It will be drier than average over parts of the northwest and north midlands.

The temperatures will gradually increase over the next seven days. Mean air temperatures are forecast to be a degree or 2° above average in the north and east, but will be around 3° above average in the southwest.

Drying will be moderate or poor this week in the mostly cool, cloudy and at times damp conditions. Spraying conditions will be limited due to spells of rain and often breezy conditions.

Spells of rain over the coming week will lead to a slight deterioration of soil conditions.

As a result, all well drained soils will become saturated while moderately and poorly drained soils will become waterlogged in most areas.
