Met Éireann: Settled week ahead with plenty of sunshine

Met Éireann has said that high pressure over Ireland will result in settled weather conditions and plenty of sunshine this week.

Over the next seven days, many areas will be completely dry, but a few areas may record just 1 or 2mm of rainfall.

This coming week will be completely dry in many areas though a few locations may total just 1 or 2mm of rainfall.

This morning (Monday, March 31) any mist or fog patches will gradually clear, but may linger on southern and eastern coasts.

It will be mainly dry day with sunny spells, which will be hazy at times. There is a small chance of an isolated light shower in places. Highest afternoon temperatures of 13° to 17°C in light to moderate southerly winds.

Tonight will be dry with clear spells. Overnight lows of 5° to 8° in light to moderate south to southeast winds.

Tuesday will be dry with long spells of hazy sunshine which will turn to blue skies later.

Southeasterly winds will be moderate to fresh and strong at times in the southwest. Highest daytime temperatures of 11° to 15°, feeling coolest in the east and south.

Tuesday night will be dry and clear with the southeasterly winds easing. Lowest temperatures of 4° to 8°.

Staying dry with widespread sunshine on Wednesday, with highest temperatures of 11° to 15°, coolest in the east and south due to a light to moderate southeasterly wind.

It will be dry and clear again on Wednesday night with light easterly winds. Lowest temperatures of 3° to 7°.

Thursday will be another dry and sunny day with highest temperatures of 12° to 16° in light to moderate easterly winds.

Friday will be dry and sunny, highest afternoon temperatures of 12° to 17°, feeling mildest in the west of the country due to a light to moderate easterly wind.

The current forecast indicates that it will be mostly settled for the weekend, some more cloud is expected with temperatures becoming slightly cooler.

Met Éireann has said that the coming week will continue milder than average with mean air temperatures expected to range between 9 and 11 degrees which is 1 or 2 degrees above the average.

Mean soil temperatures over the past week were significantly above normal, ranging from 7.4 to 9.9 degrees which is between 1.9 and 3.6 degrees higher than normal. Mean soil temperatures will increase as well.

Dry conditions will often be good with midweek looking like the best with dry conditions, while opportunities for spraying will be good during the week.

Met Éireann said that well and moderately drained soils currently have soil moisture deficits (SMDs) ranging between 0mm on the Atlantic coast to 20mm in easterly areas.

Over the coming week, SMDs are likely to increase by 10 to 12mm generally with some restriction to growth in most well-drained soils and in other soils in the east.
