Met Éireann warns of heavy rain in several counties

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow rainfall warning in several counties which is due to come into effect this evening (Monday, July 14).

The national forecaster said that there is a risk of heavy spells of rain with some thunderstorms possible across Clare, Galway, Kerry, and Limerick.

The weather warning will come into force from 7:00p.m this evening and will remain in place until 7:00a.m tomorrow (Tuesday, July 15).

The conditions will bring a risk of localised flooding; lightning damage, and difficult travelling conditions.

Met Éireann has also issued a Status Yellow thunderstorm warning for Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, and Wicklow.

This warning is currently in place and will remain valid until 4:00p.m today.

Meanwhile, Met Éireann has forecasted mixed and changeable weather conditions for the coming week.

Cloud will increase today in the south-west and west as the day goes on, with more prolonged showers developing in these areas.

It will feel cooler and fresher than of late with highest temperatures of 15° to 21°C, with moderate to fresh and gusty south to south-west winds developing, strong at times on southern and south-western coasts.

Showers or longer spells of rain are expected tonight, turning heavy and possibly thundery at times.

Met Éireann has said that moderately and well drained soils in the north, west and far southwest are close to saturation, with poorly drained soils there waterlogged.

Elsewhere, soils are drier, with soil moisture deficits currently ranging between 10 and 60 mm for all soil types, highest in the south, with some restriction to growth.

The values are likely to decrease in parts of the west and southwest with the forecasted showers and rain in the coming days. Elsewhere will remain high, decreasing only between 10 to 15mm.
