New board member wanted for Teagasc

Applications are being sought to fill one 'ordinary member' position on the board of the Teagasc.

The 11-member board of Teagasc is appointed by the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine.

The board includes representatives from farming organisations, the food industry, universities, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, and Teagasc staff.

The board is currently chaired by Liam Herlihy, who was reappointed in 2023 and will remain in the role until September 2028.

The Irish Farmers' Association's deputy president Alice Doyle is on the board, as is Elaine Houlihan, former president of Macra.

Candidates who are interested in applying for the current opening on the board must demonstrate in their application "evidence of extensive experience at an appropriately senior level" in the agriculture and food sector.

This should also include evidence of experience in at least three of the following areas:

  • A demonstrable understanding of the agriculture and food industry;
  • Experience of a senior executive role within the agri-food sector;
  • Experience of agri-business, the food and the food processing industry;
  • Business and entrepreneurial knowledge of relevance to the agricultural and food industry.

The job ad also says it is desirable that candidates demonstrate evidence of experience in a number of other areas, including: commercial knowledge and business acumen related to the agri-food sector; corporate governance and compliance experience; and financial experience.
