New chairperson being sought for National Milk Agency

Applications from candidates are currently being invited to fill the role of chairperson of the National Milk Agency.

The National Milk Agency was established under the Milk (Regulation of Supply) Act, 1994 to regulate the supply of milk for liquid consumption throughout the state.

The agency is financed by means of a levy of 0.115c/L of milk purchased for processing for liquid consumption.

Applications for the role of chairperson of the board of the National Milk Agency opened yesterday (Thursday, August 7) and will remain open until 3:00p.m on August 28.

On the Public Jobs website, the employing department or authority is listed as the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine.

The job posting says that the minister is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of chairperson.

Candidates wishing to apply must demonstrate, on their application, evidence of experience at an appropriately senior level in a number of areas.

These areas include:

  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience in the agricultural sector;
  • Experience in strategic planning and implementation;
  • Previous board experience;
  • Knowledge of the governance and accountability within which the organisation operates;

Apart from these requirements, it is desirable for candidates to demonstrate evidence of experience in the production and supply chain of the dairy sector; work in senior advisory or management; and in the liquid milk sector.

It is also desirable for candidates to have experience in chairing a board in a comparable entity and leading a highly competent and diverse group of board members.

The chairperson will be responsible to lead the board of the National Milk Agency in the determination of its strategy and in the achievement of its objectives.

The chairperson is responsible for organising the business of the board, ensuring its effectiveness, and setting its agenda.

The chairperson facilitates the effective contribution of all board members; and constructive relations between the chief executiveofficer and the other board members; and ensures that board members receive relevant, accurate and timely information.
