The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Agriculture and Food will hold discussions on farm safety, mental health, and wellbeing tomorrow (Wednesday, July 9).
The committee, made up of 14 members, will meet at 3:30p.m to engage with representatives from AgriKids; Embrace FARM; Longford Women's Link; and FBD Insurance, on farm safety.
At 4:30p.m, the committee with meet with Teagasc and the Irish Farmers' Association on farmer mental health and wellbeing.
Speaking ahead of the meeting, Oireachtas committee chair, Fianna Fáil Cork North-West TD, Aindrias Moynihan, said that safety on farms is "an ever-present concern".
"Our committee welcomes the announcement last week made by Minister Martin Heydon and Minister Michael Healy-Rae for 40 farm safety, health and wellbeing projects that will receive a collective €1.68 million in funding," Deputy Moynihan said.
“We also note the nationwide initiative by Teagasc which blended digital learning with original ideas to promote farm safety among children.
"The Stay Safe with Jessy Farm Safety Campaign entailed a webinar and art competition aimed at primary-school-age children, and the interaction and engagement from the children was a worthwhile reminder to have safety at the forefront when it comes to farming."
A third committee session will also take place tomorrow, focused on further scrutiny of COM(2025)236 with Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine officials.
