Under the Multi-annual Rural Water Programme 2024 - 2026, funding of €73.9 million has been allocated for 291 projects across the country, according to Fine Gael TD Colm Burke.
The funding was made available as the government launched its revised National Development Plan today, July 22, 2025.
Speaking at the launch of the proposed development plan, the Taoiseach, Micheál Martin said: "Comprehensive and definitive investment in water services is (a) core strategic priority for the new funding.
"This is critical to meet the heightened pace of demand for infrastructure due to increased economic growth and will support new house building industrial development and regional growth," the Taoiseach added.
The Taoiseach believes that increased investment in energy, transport and water provide a "core foundation" for a further sustained effort to achieve critical environmental objectives.
Deputy Burke outlined that the programme delivers improvements to private domestic water and waste water services in areas of rural Ireland where there are no public water services.
He said: "The allocation of €73.9m for 291 projects across the country will directly benefit 63,000 rural households and will address a wide range of needs such as water quality and infrastructure upgrades.
“Projects will range from minor works right up to major capital investments of over €2m for complex or bundled schemes."
“Fine Gael is working hard to improve our infrastructure to ensure more homes can be built," Deputy Burke added.
