A quad was reported stolen from a sheep shed in Tydavnet, Co. Monaghan this morning (Wednesday, February 5) between 4.30am and 5am.

The quad is a blue 2024 Yamaha Grizzly 100 with a loud exhaust (pictured above) worth around £10,000 (€12,031).

Farmer Fintan Hackett told Agriland that the quad was kept in the shed where cameras have been set up for lambing during this season.

However, after the quad was taken, Hackett found the camera wires disconnected and a ladder brought near the area where it was kept.

“The cameras were down during power outages but I checked yesterday and they were working fine again, so it had clearly been disconnected as the sensor was broken off and a ladder was pulled out to be used,” Hackett said.

The farmer was awake early and heard the quad leaving the yard. He immediately drove after the vehicle by listening to the exhaust, but was unable to track it down.

A neighbour was also subject to theft at around the same time, having tools stolen from their yard. Gardaí are investigating both incidents and many in the area are also keeping an eye out.

Hackett described the incident as “very annoying” and said he never had an issue with thefts in the past on the farm.

“I had a brand new quad ordered and had planned on trading this one in against it and now that is not going to happen. It is just a disaster,” he said.

The farmer has been in touch with quad dealers in the area to prevent a resale of the stolen vehicle. He is also offering a cash reward for anyone with further information.
