Report: Increase in value of food and live animals exports in February

The total value of food and live animal exports in February grew year on year to €1.197 billion, according to new figures published today (Tuesday, April 15) by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

The CSO report on 'Goods Exports and Imports February 2025' shows that in February 2025, seasonally adjusted trade exports in goods "grew by €700.9 million (+2.8%) to €25.5 billion compared with January 2025, according to preliminary figures".

Specifically the latest figures highlight that the value of exports of live animals increased to €60 million in February 2025 - up from €40 million a year earlier.

Exports in the category of meat and meat preparations also grew to €410 million in February 2025 compared to €366 million in the same month in 2024.

The value of dairy products and birds' eggs exports also increased from €213 million in February 2024 to €265 million in February this year.

According to the CSO Ireland’s top exporting partners were the US, the Netherlands and Germany in February however exports to Great Britain also increased by "€1.4 million to €1,195 million in February 2025 compared to the figure for February 2024 of €1,194 million".

"The products which accounted for the largest share of exports were food and live animals at €352.07 million, and machinery and transport equipment at €252.38 million, representing 29.5% and 21.1% of total exports to Great Britain in February 2025," the CSO stated.

Meanwhile according to the CSO the value of goods imported by Ireland in February grew by €1.62 billion - up 14.8% - to €12.6 billion when compared with January 2025.

Latest CSO data shows that out of this the value of live animal imports in February 2025 totaled €29 million while the value of imports in the meat and meat preparations category was valued at €100 million.

Ireland also imported dairy products and birds' eggs in February 2025 worth €105 million.
