RTÉ has announced the appointment of Aengus Cox as its new agriculture and consumer affairs correspondent.
Cox is currently a multimedia journalist with RTÉ and has worked across radio, television and online since 2012. He will be taking up the new role from January 2025.
As a reporter for Morning Ireland, Cox regularly covered food production, the environment, biodiversity and regular investigative features on the reasons behind steep rises in the cost of motor and public liability insurance.
Taking up the position, Cox said: “Farming in Ireland has reached a pivotal point, with competing pressures from key environmental targets and the ever-increasing cost of doing business.
“Farmers are looking to quickly adapt practices in reducing carbon emissions, while at the same time needing to stay competitive. I hope to visit as many farms, agri-businesses, and other stakeholders as I can to tell these stories as they deal with this transition.”

Cox holds a BA Hons in German and Politics, as well as a first-class honours master’s degree from University College Dublin (UCD) in European Regional and Minority Studies.
Prior to working with RTÉ, Cox was a reporter and presenter with East Coast Radio in Co. Wicklow.
He hosted a weekend current affairs programme on the station discussing the issues facing people in both urban and rural parts of the county.
Cox then worked as a business reporter for RTÉ News where he covered a range of topics including personal finance, housing, the cost of living and an extensive series on Brexit.
In addition to Morning Ireland, he has also presented European Parliament Report on television and has been a stand in presenter on This Week and News at One on RTÉ Radio 1.
The role of agriculture and consumer correspondent was previously held by Joe Mag Raollaigh, who was appointed as political coverage editor for RTÉ News this autumn.
The Co. Galway man began his broadcasting career in Clare FM, hosting current affairs and farming radio shows before moving to TG4 after it was set up in 1996.
