Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow rain warning for counties: Cork and Waterford, which will come into place from tomorrow (Sunday, October 13).
The national forecaster warned of heavy and persistent rain which may lead to spot flooding for both counties from the evening time.
The warning will come into place at 5:00p.m for Co. Cork until 11:00p.m. The warning will be in place in Waterford from 6:00p.m, extending until the early hours of Monday, October 14 at midnight.
There will also be a Status Yellow Gale warning from Wicklow Head to Dungarvan to Valentia, where south or southeast winds will reach gale force 8 at times, according to the national forecaster.
For the rest of the country, it will be largely dry with some sunny spells on Sunday. However, later in the day cloud will gradually thicken, with scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle developing.
Rainfall amounts over the past seven days were above average in parts of Munster and Leinster and near or below average elsewhere, according to Met Éireann.
Over twice the normal amount of rain fell in south and southwest Munster, with 72.5mm recorded at Valentia and 66.9mm at Cork Airport. It was driest at Malin Head where there was an accumulation of 10.4mm.
During the next seven days, rainfall amounts will be average or below average in most parts of the country, the exception being north midlands where amounts are forecast to be over 1.5 times the average for this time of year.
Most soils are saturated or close to saturation across the country and some poorly-drained soils are waterlogged.
Soil conditions will deteriorate in the next seven days, with some well and moderately drained soils in the northwest becoming saturated, and poorly drained soils across much of the country becoming waterlogged.
