Storm Ashley has led to power outages impacting on 53,000 homes, farms and businesses this evening (Sunday, October 20), predominantly in counties along the western seaboard, ESB Networks has confirmed.
Co. Mayo, Galway, Sligo, Clare and Kerry, as well as north Cork and north Dublin have been worst impacted by Storm Ashley bringing very strong to gale force and gusty south to southwest winds, coupled with high spring tides.
ESB Networks crews and contractors are deployed and restoring power in impacted areas where safe to do so. Further outages in the coming hours can be expected as the storm tracks north.
While crews and contractors will work to restore supply to as many homes, farms and businesses as possible through this evening, significant numbers of customers in these counties are likely to be without supply overnight.
A Status Orange wind warning remains in place for Clare, Kerry, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo until 8:00p.m today. A wind warning for Ireland also remains in place until 12:00a.m tomorrow (Monday, October 21).
If you come across fallen wires or damaged electricity network, never, ever touch or approach these as they are LIVE and extremely dangerous. Please report any damage to electricity infrastructure by calling 1800 372 999.
ESB Networks said it is important that any impacted customers who use electrically powered medical devices contact their healthcare professional to make alternative arrangements if necessary.
Given the extent of the storm, estimated restoration times will be updated through this evening and will be available on PowerCheck.ie and ESBNetworks.ie as restoration work progresses.
