Met Éireann has updated its Status Orange wind warning to include Co. Clare, Donegal, Kerry, Leitrim and Sligo as Storm Ashley will bring very strong and gusty winds tomorrow (Sunday, October 20).
A Status Orange wind warning for Clare, Kerry, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo will come into effect at 12:00p.m tomorrow and will remain in place until 8:00p.m.
Storm Ashley will bring very strong and gusty south to southwest winds, coupled with high spring tides, which will lead to coastal flooding and large coastal waves.
Met Éireann also warns of loose objects being displaced, fallen trees, very difficult travelling conditions, dangerous conditions at sea, damage to power lines, power outages, and damage to already weakened structures.
A Status Yellow wind warning will also be in place for Ireland from 12:00a.m tomorrow until 3:00a.m on Monday (October 21), according to the national forecaster.
Possible impacts are coastal flooding, large coastal waves, some fallen trees and branches, difficult travelling conditions, and debris and loose objects being displaced.
Storm Ashley will also bring heavy rain between 12:00a.m and 9:00a.m tomorrow with a Status Yellow warning in place for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork, Kerry and Waterford. Spot flooding and travel disruption are possible.
The UK Met Office has also issued a yellow wind warning for Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry from 3:00a.m tomorrow until 12:00a.m on Monday. A spell of strong winds could cause disruption.
Met Éireann also issued a Status Orange storm warning from Valentia to Erris Head to Malin Head, as southwest winds will reach storm force 10 between 10:00a.m and 7:00p.m tomorrow.
A Status Yellow gale warning for all coasts of Ireland and on the Irish Sea will be in place from 12:00a.m tomorrow until 12:00a.m on Monday. Southeast winds, veering southwest will increase to gale force 8 or strong gale force 9.
Tonight (Saturday, October 19) will become very wet and very windy with strong to gale force southeasterly winds developing. Rain in the southwest will extend countrywide with some heavy falls bringing spot flooding, especially to the south and southeast.
There is the continuing possibility of coastal flooding due to very high tides tonight, with lowest temperatures of 8° to 12°, according to the national forecaster.
Storm Ashley will affect Ireland tomorrow with the peak winds occurring very early in the morning, and again during the afternoon and evening.
Heavy rain will clear northeastwards during the morning with sunshine and scattered blustery following. More persistent rain will feed into western and northern areas later with isolated thunderstorms possible.
Strong to gale force southwest winds will bring the potential for some disruption, especially in Atlantic coastal areas, with storm force winds off the west and northwest coasts. Coastal flooding is possible due to very high tides. Highest temperatures will be between 13° to 16°.
