Tirlán farmers in Waterford have been asked to donate €100 for the next three years to "support and sponsor" the Waterford Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA) .
Farmers who are members of the Tirlán Council have made the appeal to fellow dairy suppliers in the county after setting up the Waterford Dairy Farmers’ group.
This group intends to support and sponsor the county’s ladies Gaelic football teams for the next three years.
It is understood that the Waterford Dairy Farmers' group name and logo will feature on the front of the inter-county team jerseys for the next three years.
The group are now appealing to other Tirlán dairy farmers across Waterford to "come on board, donate to the fund and support Waterford Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA) for the next three years".
Waterford LGFA has been in existence since the summer of 1970.
Tirlán Council members Kevin Moloney and Niall Moore believe dairy farmers "are deeply rooted in their communities, care about the environment and want to make a difference".
They also feel that sponsoring the team could give dairy farmers an opportunity to "tell the positive story that is Irish dairy in this country and the importance of the sector in rural Ireland".
Niall Moore said: "Our ask of each dairy farmer in Waterford is that they donate €100 a year or make a once-off payment of €300 to sponsor Waterford LGFA for 2025,2026 and 2027.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for the 500 plus dairy farmers in Waterford to get behind LGFA in Waterford and row in behind our communities. Receipts will be issued and the sponsorship is tax deductible".
According to Kevin Moloney Waterford LGFA is "growing its presence across the county".
“Waterford Ladies Gaelic Football Association delivers a huge amount to the girls and ladies of the county.
"It runs club championships at all age groups, from juvenile to adult teams.
"It also fields inter county teams at u14, u16, u18 and adult levels. It is a voluntary organisation that contributes a huge amount to the health and wellbeing of its members and deserves our support," Moloney added.
