The Irish Hereford Breed Society hosted its second and final Autumn Bull sale on Friday, October 18, at GVM Kilmallock Mart, Co. Limerick.

The judge on the day was Mr. Eugene Lynch from Dromdaniel Herefords who with the assistance of Jack O’Connor from Clouncagh Herefords, judged the five classes prior to the sale.

The Champion bull on the day was Moyclare Wonderkid with Ballinalick Profile PP lined up for the Reserve Champion.

The show and sale met a 58% clearance and an average price of €3,053.

Moyclare Wonderkid, the judges favourite on the day also topped the sale at €5,600. This March 2023 born bull bred by Michael Molloy, has five stars for both the terminal and Dairy Beef Index (DBI).

Wonderkid is a twin to Moyclare Workman who sold in the Premier sale in Tullamore the previous week.

As mentioned above, Peter and Lily Cooke’s Ballinalick Profile PP took the Reserve Champion title.

This bull has five stars across the board for Replacement, Terminal and Dairy Beef, with an impressive €160 for his replacement value.

There were plenty of keen eyes on this bull as he sold for €3,600 in the ring.

JJ Farrell from Trillick Herefords in Co. Longford had a very successful day selling both of his bulls for a combined total of €7,400.

Trillick Poll Buddy PP is a July 2023 born bull that has five stars for terminal, DBI and the Beef sub index within the Hereford breed.

Awarded first prize in the show ring, the winning streak continued for Buddy in the sales ring as he was sold for €4,200.

Lot 32 Trillick Wonder HH continued the success in the ring also by winning his class and later went on to secure €3,200 in the ring.

Fortergalpoll 1 Chief bred by Gerard and Sheila Lucey also had eye-catching stars within the indexes.

This bull has five stars across all the economic indexes within the Hereford breed and was later snatched up for €3,000 in the ring.

Kye Herefords had a good day with their bulls at the event. Lot 17 Kye King 019 has an impressive five stars across the DBI was snatched up in the ring for €3,000.

The success continued with Kyepoll 1 1 Star 1020. This bull has five stars across all the economic indexes within the Hereford breed and was popular in the ring when purchased for €3,000.

The next Irish Hereford Breed Society event is with the Next-Gen Herefords on Friday, November 15.

This event will conclude the Hereford youth competition for 2024 and is followed the next day with the National Hereford Calf Show on Saturday, November 16 at GVM Tullamore Mart, Co. Offaly.
