Top price of €8,000 at Manorhamilton Fatstock Sale

Manorhamilton Livestock Sales in Co. Leitrim hosted its annual fatstock show and sale on Saturday, December 14, with approximately 260 head of cattle on offer in the sale.

The pre-sale show kicked off just before 10:00a.m. and the judge on the day was Dermot Small.

The judge tapped forward a 382kg Limousin-cross heifer owned by Liam Maguire as his overall champion and this heifer went on to sell for €5,200 or €13.61/kg.

The Reserve Champion went the way of Lot 148, a heifer owned by MDC Commercials.

The auctioneers Tom Cox and Rodney Windrum managed plenty of brisk bidding on the day and it was a 356kg Charolais-cross heifer owned by Conor McDermott from Williamstown, Co. Galway that took the top price of €8,000.

The 356kg heifer sold for the equivalent of €22.47/kg and was purchased by Josh McCrabbe from Raphoe, Co. Donegal.

The second-highest price on the day was €6,000 for a Belgian Blue-cross heifer sold by Brendan Regan from Ballyhaunis Co. Mayo. Weighing 398kg, this heifer was bought by a northern customer for €15.08/kg.  

A Belgian-Blue-cross heifer owned by James Feeley sold for €5,800 and another Limousin-cross heifer owned by Liam Maguire sold for €5,200.

The top-priced in-calf heifer was sold by Herbie Griffith for €4,000. The overall clearance rate in the sale on the day was 86%.

Making €4,500 was a Belgian Blue-cross heifer owned by Ava Moffitt and making €3,900 was another Belgian-Blue-cross heifer owned by Brian McGourty.

Manorhamilton Mart management thanked all who supported the annual event and wished all patrons of the mart venue a Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year.
