Weather forecast: Some showers but mainly dry week ahead

While there may be some showers or light overnight rain in some areas, the weather for the week ahead looks like it will be mostly dry with mild temperatures.

Met Éireann has forecast that today (Monday, July 28) will be mainly dry with a fair amount of cloud, some sunny intervals and perhaps a few showers.

This evening, rain and drizzle will develop in the south-west and west and will spread eastwards. Highest temperatures will range from 17° to 21°C with light to moderate westerly breezes.

Tonight, rain will spread eastwards to all areas. It will mostly clear by morning, but patchy drizzle and mist will linger in many areas.

It will be a mild night with temperatures not falling below 13° to 16° with light to moderate west or south-west winds.

Tuesday morning will start off mostly cloudy with patchy light rain, drizzle and mist. It will become mainly dry and will gradually brighten up with some sunny intervals developing in the afternoon, the best of these further west.

Highest temperatures tomorrow will range from 17° to 22° with moderate west to north-west winds.

Tuesday night is expected to be largely dry with a fair amount of cloud and some clear spells. A few spots of light rain or drizzle will occur with lowest temperatures of 10° to 15° in mostly light north-west breezes.

Wednesday will bring a mix of cloud and sunny spells along with well scattered showers. Highest temperatures will range from 17° to 22° in mostly light, occasionally moderate, north-west or west winds.There is a fair amount of uncertainty in the details for Thursday's forecast at present but indications suggest that rain will move eastwards over the country through the morning and early afternoon with sunny spells and some showers following.

Highest temperatures for Thursday look to range between 17° to 21° in moderate north-west winds.

Current indications suggest that high pressure will dominate for Friday and the weekend though there will still be some showers or rain at times.

It may be breezy too for a time on Friday. Highest temperatures generally reaching the high teens or low 20s.

Drying conditions will generally be moderate to good most days of the coming week, however there will be some light rain or drizzle and showers at times.

There will be good opportunities for spraying during the coming week, though occasional rain and showers may hinder opportunities.

Currently, most soils are dry with soil moisture deficits (SMDs) generally of 10mm to 50mm with the exception of soils in the north-east are saturated or waterlogged.

With less rainfall in the coming week, SMDs will increase with soils in most areas becoming drier apart from in the north and north-east where well drained soils will be near saturation and moderately and poorly drained soils will become waterlogged.
