Weather mixed and turning more unsettled later in week

The weather will be largely mixed and changeable in general this week, but is expected to turn more unsettled later in the week, according to Met Éireann.

It will be dry in most parts to begin today (Monday, October 21) following the severe weather of Storm Ashley, with sunny spells and just a few showers. It will turn cloudier from the west this afternoon, with outbreaks of rain spreading eastwards.

Highest temperatures today will be 12° to 15° in moderate to fresh southwest winds, increasing strong and gusty near western and northwestern coasts at times from afternoon.

Tonight will be rather cloudy for a time, with outbreaks of rain continuing to spread eastwards over the country, with the chance of a few heavy bursts across southern counties. Clear spells and a few showers will extend from the west overnight.

Lowest temperature tonight will be 5° to 9° with winds decreasing light to moderate, southwest or variable. Some mist and fog patches may form towards dawn.

Any mist and fog patches will clear during the morning to sunny spells and just well-scattered showers tomorrow (Tuesday, October 22). Highest temperatures will be 12° to 15° in mainly light southwest or variable breezes, increasing moderate to fresh near west and northwest coasts towards evening.

Tomorrow night will see generally dry weather for many with clear spells and just isolated showers at first. Cloud will thicken overnight with patchy rain and drizzle developing in Atlantic coastal counties.

There will be some hill and coastal mist as well tomorrow night. Lowest temperatures will be 6° to 10° in mostly light to moderate southerly winds, fresher near western and northwestern coasts.

It will be mostly cloudy on Wednesday (October 23) with patchy rain and drizzle, although some limited bright or sunny intervals will also occur. Highest temperatures will 13° to 16° in freshening southerly winds.

It will continue mostly cloudy on Wednesday night with patchy rain and drizzle. It will also be rather breezy, with moderate to fresh and gusty southerly winds. It will be mild overnight, with lowest temperatures of 10° to 12°.

Outbreaks of occasionally heavy rain will gradually spread from the Atlantic on Thursday (October 24) with some spot flooding possible. While the timing is uncertain at present, a clearance to scattered showers will start to extend from the west later in the day.

Highest temperatures on Thursday are expected to be 13° to 16° with moderate to fresh and gusty southerly winds, veering westerly and easing.

There will be showers or longer spells of rain on Thursday night, some heavy and possibly thundery. Lowest temperatures are expected to be 6° to 9°. Light to moderate southwest winds will veer west to northwest overnight and increase fresh to strong and gusty near western and northwestern coasts.

Met Éireann said that current indications for Friday (October 25) suggest it will be breezy with sunshine and showers, some possibly heavy and prolonged, especially in the west and north. Friday will be cooler than previous days, with highest values of 10° to 13° in blustery northwest winds, easing later.
