Weather unsettled for most of this week with some windy spells

The weather this week will be mostly unsettled for most days, with some windy conditions at times also, according to Met Éireann.

It will be generally dry today (Monday, December 2) with long spells of sunshine and just some showers, mainly in the west and north. It will turn cloudier in the southwest in the evening.

Highest temperatures today will be 5° to 9°, with light to moderate northwest winds, fresh at first in the northeast, becoming light westerly by the evening.

It will be mostly dry tonight with clear spells. Lowest temperatures will be -2° to +2° generally with frost and ice developing in places in light southeasterly or variable breezes.

There will be some patchy mist and fog too. It will be milder in the southwest as freshening southeasterly winds and outbreaks of rain develop there towards morning.

It will be dry for most tomorrow morning (Tuesday, December 3) with some early sunny spells before outbreaks of rain extend from the west, with some heavy or thundery bursts and possible spot flooding, along with a chance of some sleet on high ground in the north.

Sunny weather and isolated showers will move into the west during the afternoon as the rain clears eastwards from most areas through the evening. Highest temperatures will be 5° to 10°, coolest in the north and mildest in the southwest.

Southeasterly winds will be moderate, occasionally fresh but strong at times near coasts and will veer northwesterly as the rain clears.

Tomorrow night will be mostly dry with clear spells and just a few stray showers. Lowest temperatures will be 0° to 3° with some frost and ice possible. Winds will fall light and variable overnight.

After a dry and bright start on Wednesday (December 4), the weather will turn cloudy through the morning with outbreaks of rain extending eastwards over the country, accompanied by fresh to strong and gusty southerly winds with gales near some coasts. Highest afternoon temperatures will be 5° to 10°.
