While the weekend weather forecast indicates that there will be a good amount of dry weather over the coming days, there will be some scattered showers about with a change to more unsettled weather on Bank Holiday Monday (August 4).
According to Met Éireann, it will be mostly cloudy this morning (Friday, August 1) with some limited sunny spells and isolated light showers feeding into the north.
Better sunny spells will develop through the afternoon and evening as the showers die away. Highest temperatures will range from 16°C to 21°, warmest in the south, in a light north-westerly breeze.
It will be dry with clear spells at first tonight but cloud will build in the west later and bring lowest temperatures of 8° to 13° in a light and variable breeze.
Saturday morning will start dry with sunny spells in the east. Cloud will spread from the west through the morning and afternoon, bringing patches of light rain, drizzle and mist eastwards through the day.
Highest temperatures will range from 16° to 21° in a light south-westerly breeze.
Saturday night will be cloudy with outbreaks of light rain and drizzle at first. More persistent rain will develop in the west and spread across the country through the night.
Some clear spells and scattered showers will follow in the north and west by morning. Lowest temperatures of 13° to 17° with a moderate south-west to west wind are expected.
Sunday will see cloud and rain clear from the south-east on Sunday morning and for the rest of the day there will be a good amount of dry and bright weather, with just a few showers in the north-west.
Cloud will slowly build from the south-west through the evening and highest temperatures will range from 16° to 20° with a moderate to fresh westerly wind, easing later.
Turning wet and windy on Sunday night as rain spreads from the west accompanied by fresh and gusty winds with lowest temperatures of 12° to 15°.
There is some uncertainty in the forecast but current indications suggest Bank Holiday Monday will see a wet and windy start with strong and gusty westerly winds and widespread rain, possibly heaviest over parts of the north-west, clearing eastwards through the morning and afternoon.
Sunny spells and scattered showers will follow as winds gradually easy through the day and highest temperatures of between 16° to 21° are expected.
Tuesday looks to bring a drier and brighter day with good sunny spells and well scattered showers. Highest temperatures ranging from 15° to 19° are expected in a moderate to fresh north-west wind.
Drying conditions are generally moderate to good, but reducing poor at times in spells of rain, particularly over the weekend and early next week.
Spraying opportunities will be limited over the coming days with patchy rain and drizzle at times, along with spells of wet and windy weather over the weekend and early next week.
However, there will be some opportunities for spraying in drier conditions up to Saturday evening.
Currently, most soils are trafficable, with soil moisture deficits (SMDs) generally ranging between 5mm and 40mm, driest in the south and south-east, with some restriction to growth in the far south.
However, parts of the north and north-east are wetter, where some soils are saturated or waterlogged. With mixed conditions and spells of rain over the coming week, SMDs are expected to decrease in the midlands, north and west.
However, SMDs are expected to stay near the same or increase slightly in the south-east.
