A newly published "Register of Interests" has revealed which members of Dáil Éireann own farmland and forestry.
The list shows that two ministers in the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) list farmer among their occupations and also farmland in their portfolio of interests.
According to the register the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon, owns farmland in Blackrath, Colbinstown, Co. Kildare, and in Aghcross, Ballickmoyler, Co. Laois.
The Minister of State for Forestry, Horticulture and Farm Safety, Michael Healy-Rae - has listed for the period covering January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024 - 27 land and property entries.
He is the TD with the most extensive property portfolio, according to the Dáil's Register of Members' Interests.
Registrable interests include TDs' other occupations and directorships, shares and properties they own and gifts they have received.
Minister Healy-Rae registered that he is the owner of 42 acres of forestry in Kilgarvan, Co. Kerry.
In his 27 land and property entries, he also registered that in Kilgarvan, Co. Kerry, he has 100 acres of farmland and forestry and that he is a director in company which owns a service station, shop and post office.
The minister is the landlord of 18 properties across Co. Kerry and Co. Limerick.
Meanwhile the Minister of State with responsibility for Food Promotion, New Markets, Research and Development, Noel Grealish, does not list any farmland or forestry in the Register of Interests.
In total, 20 TDs declared that they owned farmland or forestry.
The Fianna Fáil TD for Clare, Cathal Crowe, registered his occupation as a farmer in Cratloe, Co. Clare, where he also owns farmland.
Fine Gael TD for Carlow-Kilkenny, Catherine Callaghan registered a letting for farmland in Craan, Co. Carlow, while fellow Carlow-Kilkenny TD, Natasha Newsome Drennan, registered land in Gorrue, Co. Kilkenny, and Dunnamaggin, Co. Kilkenny.
In Tipperary, Deputy Mattie McGrath registered mountain farmland in Newcastle, Co. Tipperary.
Meanwhile Deputy Michael Lowry detailed in the register that his interests included 35 acres in Co. Tipperary, 20 acres of land in joint ownership at Ashton, Marketfield, Wigan, 2.5 acres Mansfield, 3.75 acres Abbey Road, Thurles, Co. Tipperary and property at Montrose Avenue, Foxwood, Kilbarry, Co. Waterford.
Kildare South TD, Seán Ó'Feargháil registered as a farmer with 100 acres in Fennor, Co. Kildare.
The Kerry TD, Danny Healy-Rae, lists farmer, publican, bus hire among his occupations.
He also detailed that his interests include 50 acres in, Kilgarvan, 3 acres at Gortnaboul, Kilgarvan, 38 Acres at Gullaba, Kilgarvan and a house at Ardtully, Kilgarvan.
The Fianna Fáil TD for Kerry, Michael Cahill is a registered farmer in Rossbeigh, Co. Kerry.
In Co. Cork, Deputy Michael Collins registered farmland in Ardravinna, Co. Cork, Lissacaha, Co. Cork, and Knock, Co. Cork while the Cork South-West TD, Holly Cairns also registered her occupation as a farmer, and Cork North-West TD Michael Moynihan, is registered as a suckler farmer with land throughout the county.
Donegal TD, Pat Gallagher, has registered forestry in Dungloe, Co. Donegal, and Deputy William Aird, from Laois, registered as a farmer, with farmland in Portlaoise.
Independent TD for Meath-East, Gillian Toole registered farmland in Ratoath, Co. Meath, and Longford-Westmeath TD, Peter Burke registered as a farmer in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath.
In Galway, Deputy Michael Fitzmaurice is registered as an agricultural contractor, with farmland in Williamstown, Co. Galway.
The Fine Gael TD for Galway East, Peter Roche, has registered farmland in Tuam, Co. Galway as has Deputy Eamon Scanlon who registered farmland in Ballymote, Co. Sligo.
